Most homeowners don’t get on their roof at all, much less regularly to check their masonry chimney for potential problems that might develop, such as spalling. A masonry brick is a porous material that will absorb water and spalling is a condition where the moisture in the brick freezes and expands, essentially exploding the brick causing the surface to break off.
The various brands of HEPA air system scrubbers capture virtually all removable airborne particles. Air is composed of gases, microscopic and sub-microscopic particles, and varying amounts of water vapor. The air particles can be solid or liquid, organic or inorganic, visible or invisible, and harmless or toxic. A cubic foot of “clean” air will contain over a million particles; “dirty” air contains well over 30 million particles. A HEPA filter traps and blocks very small particles from getting back into the air. A certified HEPA filter is required and tested to trap particles as small as .3 microns with 99.97% efficiency. A .3-micron particle is 300 times smaller than a human hair. To put that in perspective, a human hair is approximately 100 microns in diameter. If the diameter of that hair was a football field, .3 microns would be one foot.

Work Safe, Work Smart by Jodi
Construction is a potentially high hazard industry for those who work in it, which falls at the top of the hazard list. Although there are commonly available methods from preventing falls, they were the cause of most fatalities on construction sites. In 2007, 5,657 deaths occurred by falls. That number has decreased for 2008 to 5,071. Falls from a higher elevation was the leading cause at 17% followed by falls off a ladder at 16%. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) law requires employers to provide a work place that is safe and free of hazards. Most accidents on job sites are preventable and can be avoided with the proper safety training, precautions and common sense. Clarke Contractors, Inc has had only 2 Workers Compensation claims in the last 2 years.
